Today, the U.S. Senate passed a pork-laden tax package by an 81-19 margin. As a result, every American will be spared a considerable tax hike in 2011. In fact, many of us will be keeping a greater percentage of our earnings. But there are also problems with the bill: it grows the deficit and will probably have a negligible impact on high unemployment. A temporary (two-year) freeze on the tax rates leaves uncertainty in the system -- uncertainty which encourages business owners to keep their cash on the sidelines rather than grow their workforce. The lack of reduction to the employers … [Read more...] about Mitt Romney: Tax Deal, Bad Deal

A Gringo In Colombia
A good word from a gringo in Colombia. An excerpt: In Africa, in Myanmar, in Colombia I have met believers living under terribly difficult circumstances. It may be simple poverty. It may be persecution from other religions. It may be an aggressively inhospitable state. What draws my eyes away from the circumstances is the blindness of the saints to those circumstances. They are far to busy rejoicing in the grace of God, far too consumed with His glory, to be distracted by their surroundings. They are too passionately committed to preaching and teaching, to fulfilling the Great Commission to … [Read more...] about A Gringo In Colombia
Time Magazine’s Person of the Year: Mark Zuckerberg
The 26-year old CEO of Facebook (a private company) has been named Time magazine's Person of the Year for 2010. A major motion picture came out this year on the founding of Facebook and the intrigue that took place between Zuckerberg and a pair of his former colleagues from Harvard university, where Zuckerberg earned his B.S. degree in computer science. When Disability Hits Home
The sovereignty of God in all things is something many of us appreciate on an intellectual level, but what happens when we're assigned a particularly painful burden, like a child with a disability? This outstanding episode of Joni and Friends features the granddaughter of R.C. Sproul and the grandson of Chuck Colson, both of whom have severe disabilities. It gives a rare glimpse into how they deal with the hardships, but also how they find joy in their interactions with these precious children. I especially appreciated the last few minutes, when R.C. Sproul and R.C. Sproul Jr. discuss how … [Read more...] about When Disability Hits Home
John MacArthur: Slave
Both the title of John MacArthur's forthcoming book (Slave: The Hidden Truth About Your Identity in Christ) and this little promo video below seem provocative. The product description: Throughout the Bible, followers of Jesus are commanded to submit to Him as their King. They are told to obey and follow, faithfully and without hesitation. Every time Christians utter the word Lord, they make a subtle yet profound declaration-that God is their Master and that they belong to Him. In fact, the Bible describes believers as His slaves. They have been bought with a price and now live for Christ as a … [Read more...] about John MacArthur: Slave
