Pastor Doug Wilson released a book with Thomas Nelson publishers yesterday entitled Father Hunger: Why God Calls Men to Love and Lead Their Families. It includes a Foreword from John Piper. Though I don’t agree with Wilson on every jot and tittle, I find him enormously helpful on issues related to masculinity and femininity and their interaction in marriage and parenting. This book should be very good.
Thomas Nelson has launched a website for the book that includes links to a sermon series by Pastor Wilson on the subject as well as a 45 minute video. The website includes some insightful documentation on the economic impacts of delinquent fathers–an especially relevant topic in our day, with some 40% of all childbirths occurring outside of wedlock. (This topic is also treated in an Appendix at the back of the book.) A study guide can also be downloaded.
“Wilson sounds a clarion call among Christian men that is pointedly biblical, urgently relevant, humorously accessible, and practically wise”
– Richard Phillips, author of The Masculine Mandate: God’s Calling to Men
