Myriam Hertzog, writing for The Journal of Biblical Counseling, reviews Lenore Skenazy’s provocative book, Free-Range Kids, How to Raise Safe, Self-Reliant Children (Without Going Nuts with Worry).
Hertzog summarizes and responds to four of the major ideas that Skenazy puts forth:
1. We are much safer than we realize.
2. We listen to the wrong voices.
3. Helicopter parenting breeds distrust and pride, and severs communal ties.
4. Children are babied and not seen as key contributors to society.
