Here are some question/responses that I wrote a few years ago, and that we've worked on mainly with our older daughter (now 6). I’m re-posting them in case others might find this a good springboard for your own catechizing. The answers are admittedly a bit short and simplistic, but I figure that (and the repetition) makes it easier for memorization and parents can build on the concepts later. Q: Who is Jesus? A: Jesus is God’s Son. Q: Why did Jesus come to earth? A: God sent Jesus to live and die in the place of every sinner who would ever trust in Him, love Him, and obey Him. Q: … [Read more...] about (Brief) Easter Catechism

Did Jesus Spend Saturday Night in Hell?
The Apostles Creed begins: I believe in God, the Father Almighty, the Creator of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord: Who was conceived of the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He arose again from the dead. Many of us were raised with the notion that Jesus went to hell on Friday after dying on the cross. For a day and a half, he preached in hell before his resurrection on Sunday. Driscoll Steps Down from TGC Council
D.A. Carson and Tim Keller report: Pastor Mark Driscoll of Mars Hill Church in Seattle has recently announced he is stepping down from the Council of The Gospel Coalition. We are saddened by his departure but understand that all busy people must establish priorities. The Council is grateful to Mark for his contributions to TGC during the past decade. In the months and years ahead, we will certainly be praying for him, his family, and the ministries he … [Read more...] about Driscoll Steps Down from TGC Council
Time For The Talk: Leading Your Son Into True Manhood
I read this fantastic book in preparation for some messages I gave at Riverbend Community Church in Ormond Beach, FL a few weeks ago. I think every father of a young son should buy it and read it while his son is still a young boy. It will equip him to do something very challenging and absolutely crucial in our day: Lovingly, biblically and effectively communicating to his son the changes that come with puberty, the dangers associated with the world's distortions of God's good gift of sexuality, and how to glorify God as a man. Today only, it's on sale for $6.98 - 50% off. Ted Tripp's … [Read more...] about Time For The Talk: Leading Your Son Into True Manhood

Matt Chandler The Explicit Gospel
I just received the advance proof of Matt Chandler's first book and look forward to diving into it. “If you only read one book this year, make it this one. It’s that important.” —Rick Warren, #1 New York Times best-selling author, The Purpose Driven Life; Pastor, Saddleback Church “This book, like the gospel itself, is clarifying, convicting, comforting, and compelling all at the same time. I wholeheartedly invite you to read it, to be overwhelmed by the mercy and majesty of God in the gospel, and then to spend your life making this gospel explicit in every facet of your life … [Read more...] about Matt Chandler The Explicit Gospel
