John Piper's recent message on Matthew 6:5-18 was very convicting. Piper defined prayer as intentionally conveying a message to God. He addressed what continual communion of God throughout the day looks like. What Drives Mitt Romney
Dean Barnett, a staff writer for The Weekly Standard, publishes a brief, insightful column in the NY Times today on why he supports Mitt Romney, and what has gone wrong in his campaign. I feel duty-bound to post it, given what I've said about Romney in the past. I hope I was wrong. Excerpt: Voters perceived the cynicism of a campaign that tried to exploit wedge issues rather than focus on the issues that in truth most interested the candidate. They sensed phoniness. As a consequence, many have grown to feel that Mitt Romney can’t be trusted. This lack of trust is now the dominant and … [Read more...] about What Drives Mitt Romney
Hollywood – Increasingly Open to Pro-Life
Writing for World Magazine, Lynn Vincent reflects upon the shifting mood in Hollywood on abortion with a slew of recent films such as Knocked Up, Bella, Noelle and Juno. Steve McEveety, producer of Braveheart and executive producer of Bella and The Passion of the Christ, is quoted. Excerpt: McEveety is among those working in Hollywood who say a subtle cultural shift, one that also reaches into television, is underway. Some peg the change to ultrasound technology, others to a changing of the guard among filmmakers. But all agree that Hollywood has awakened to this fact: Abortion is not only … [Read more...] about Hollywood – Increasingly Open to Pro-Life

Gingrinch also responds to the rumor that he is working "behind the scenes" for a particular Presidential candidate. … [Read more...] about Newt Gingrinch on Reagan, the GOP, and Change
My Favorite 2007 Reading
Various members of the Desiring God staff each recently provided their top three books of 2007. I thought I'd attempt the same. Here are my top three: 1. White Guilt (by Shelby Steele) 2. Perspectives Old and New on Paul: The "Lutheran" Paul and His Critics by Stephen Westerholm 3. God's Harvard: A Christian College on a Mission to Save America by Hanna Rosin I'm grateful to blog reader Kimberly for alerting me to this new title. This book is a fascinating, insightful story of the mission of Patrick Henry College, which seeks to produce future Christian leaders who impact the cultural … [Read more...] about My Favorite 2007 Reading
Viability in the General Election & The GOP Nomination
A new CNN poll was released yesterday. The poll was taken among registered Republicans, which I don't think is quite as accurate as likely Republican primary voters. That said, the data from both of these polls are remarkably similar: McCain and Huckabee have been rising, and everybody else has been sinking. What's ironic is that the conservative media seems to be telling us just the opposite. We're told that Romney is a "full-spectrum conservative," and "the most conservative viable candidate." Others laud Thompson as offering the most broad, conservative platform (on taxes, … [Read more...] about Viability in the General Election & The GOP Nomination
