Satellites v. Church Plants
Ever wonder why so many churches today are going to satellite campuses as they get larger? Michael Mckinley writes a helpful post on the pros/cons of satellite campuses versus church planting: The benefits of the church plants are obvious: more intimate community, more direct shepherding, more opportunities for men to grow into leadership, more locations mean more gospel presences in more communities. The downsides are also obvious... what if those other four churches don't exactly stay on message? What if they don't give to missions or preach the Word or do whatever thing is most important … [Read more...] about Satellites v. Church Plants
Mike Huckabee On Roe v. Wade Anniversary
Presidential candidate Mike Huckabee posted these reflections today: Today is the 35th anniversary of a great American tragedy, the Roe vs. Wade court decision that has led to the loss of millions of innocent lives. These children were denied the right to life our Constitution grants to everyone in America, only because they had yet to emerge from their mother’s womb. As President Bush noted today, America is better than this. I support and have always supported passage of a constitutional amendment to protect the right to life. 35th Anniversary of Roe v. Wade
On Jan 22, 1973, activist judges in the U.S. Supreme Court decided that human fetuses were the property of their mothers, to be disposed in any manner she chooses. WSJ on Church Discipline; Hershael York in the News
Alexandra Alder writes a completely negative story about church discipline, even though she interviewed Dr. Hershael York, Pastor of Buck Run Baptist Church and Professor of Christian Preaching at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, and one of Dr. York's parishioners who was the recipient of church discipline, with amazingly positive results. York explains: So when the WSJ reporter called me, I explained its biblical basis, its practical application, and its obvious benefits. I reasoned that, if sin is indeed harmful, the cruelest thing we can do is leave someone in it. Confrontation … [Read more...] about WSJ on Church Discipline; Hershael York in the News
Political Blog-Spotting (Including Book Reviews)
Joe Carter dissecting the South Carolina results: "In a few weeks, when the conservative punditry realizes that a man they truly despise (McCain) will be the eventual nominee, they'll suddenly "discover" that Huckabee's record and positions were more conservative than they had led people to believe. The admission will lead to a backlash among conservatives who trusted that the pundits were telling the truth about Huckabee rather than unfairly maligning him because they were ashamed to have a barefoot hillbilly preacher as the head of their party."Mark Gauvreau Judge reviews Jonah Goldberg's … [Read more...] about Political Blog-Spotting (Including Book Reviews)
