Though not written from an explicitly Christian perspective, there is some solid "common grace" truth in this list of Nine Things Successful People Do Differently by Dr. Heidi Grant Halvorson which appeared in the Harvard Business Review. Read them through the lens of a Theocentric, Christ-exalting, God-dependent grid. Pull the weeds and enjoy the flowers: 1. Get specific. 2. Seize the moment to act on your goals. 3. Know exactly how far you have left to go. 4. Be a realistic optimist. (Hey! That's what I said.) 5. Focus on getting better, rather than being good. 6. Focus on the Family and TOMS Shoes founder Blake Mycoskie
Sarah Pulliam Bailey of Christianity Today has the latest on Focus on the Family's interview of TOMS Shoes founder Blake Mycoskie. Summary: 1. As the education blogger Whitney Tilson has pointed out, the schools that best represent the reform movement, like the KIPP academies or the Harlem Success schools, put tremendous emphasis on testing. But these schools are also the places where students are most likely to participate in chess and dance. They are the places where they … [Read more...] about The Education Reform Movement
