Earlier this year Multnomah released a revised edition of John Piper's magnificent book, The Pleasures of God: Meditations on God's Delight in Being God. Of this book, research professor New Testament Dr. D.A. Carson writes: “The Pleasures of God is perhaps the most important book that John Piper has written. It is certainly the freshest and most penetrating. Many preachers and writers are calling Christians today to be more Godcentered. The irony is that even the call to be God-centered focuses attention on us, on what we must do. Certainly the Bible spends no small part of its pages telling … [Read more...] about John Piper Discusses The Pleasures of God

Father-Hunger – Doug Wilson/John Piper
Pastor Doug Wilson released a book with Thomas Nelson publishers yesterday entitled Father Hunger: Why God Calls Men to Love and Lead Their Families. It includes a Foreword from John Piper. Though I don't agree with Wilson on every jot and tittle, I find him enormously helpful on issues related to masculinity and femininity and their interaction in marriage and parenting. This book should be very good. Thomas Nelson has launched a website for the book that includes links to a sermon series by Pastor Wilson on the subject as well as a 45 minute video. The website includes some insightful … [Read more...] about Father-Hunger – Doug Wilson/John Piper

Quitter – Jon Acuff
I recently enjoyed Jon Acuff's new book, Quitter. The subtitle is "closing the gap between your day job and your dream job." I found the premise of the book fascinating because while writing Thriving at College I came across an interesting statistic: People in their twenties go through an average of seven jobs. Acuff himself went through a bunch of jobs before doing what he does now: writing and speaking full-time as an employee on the Dave Ramsey team. In Thriving at College, I discuss the importance of discovering the intersection between your interests and passions (on the one hand) and … [Read more...] about Quitter – Jon Acuff
New Sovereign Grace Music Album: Age to Age
I've been really enjoying the latest album from Sovereign Grace Music: From Age to Age. The album's songs are written by Mark Altrogge, Steve Cook, Vikki Cook, Rich Gunderlock, Bob Kauflin, Brittany Kauflin, Jordan Kauflin, Eric McAllister, Doug Plank, Matt Richley, Joel Sczebel, Pat Sczebel, and Zach Sprowls. The Sovereign Grace team provides this information about the album: Inspired and influenced by hymn writers of the past like Martin Luther, Augustus Toplady, and Charles Wesley, From Age to Age contains 14 new hymns that combine rich, theologically driven lyrics with singable melodies … [Read more...] about New Sovereign Grace Music Album: Age to Age
The Case for Christian Education
While not all may embrace Reformed doctrinal distinctives, or the particular emphases of the Christian Reformed Church (CRC) in particular, this short Case for Christian Education by James K.A. Smith is helpful. An excerpt: So why Christian schools? Why did earlier generations commit to Christian education, investing in schools in often sacrificial ways? Their rationale was biblical, comprehensive, and radical. Stemming from the conviction that “the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom” (Ps. 111:10), the Reformed tradition—and the CRC in particular—has long recognized that Christ’s … [Read more...] about The Case for Christian Education
