Is The Gay Marriage Debate Over?

July 26, 2009 by Alex Chediak

Mark Gali, writing for Christianity Today, explores how an individualistic worldview compromises the Christian witness on the issue of heterosexual marriage. He makes many of the points that I've raised here (see my posts citing Maggie Gallagher) and in With One Voice, citing folks like David Blankenhorn (particularly on the societal implications of marriage). The article is also a good, brief overview of the history of the legal battles in the USA on this matter. Excerpts of Gali's article: "While stopping short of abortion, we have not given much thought to our easy acceptance of … [Read more...] about Is The Gay Marriage Debate Over?

Sacred Marriage (Gary Thomas)

June 13, 2009 by Alex Chediak

Some quotes from this very helpful book: "If you want to be free to serve Jesus, there's no question -- stay single. Marriage takes a lot of time. But if you want to become like Jesus, I can't imagine any better thing to do than to get married. Being married forces you to face some character issues you'd never have to face otherwise." -p. 21 "Any situation that calls me to confront my selfishness has enormous spiritual value, and I slowly began to understand that the real purpose of marriage may not be happiness as much as it is holiness. Not that God has anything against happiness, or that … [Read more...] about Sacred Marriage (Gary Thomas)

Preaching in Bakersfield, CA on With One Voice

June 12, 2009 by Alex Chediak

I'd cover your prayers for my message this Sunday at Sovereign Grace Church of Bakersfield on the topic of With One Voice. It has been an unusually challenging week in some ways and I feel drained. I was pulling up some data related to attitudes toward marriage, and the last two slides of this 2008 report from the National Marriage Project stood out. 1. A majority (~56%) of high school seniors believe that having a child without being married is "experimenting with a worthwhile lifestyle or not affecting anyone else." 2. About 60% of high school seniors “Agreed” or “Mostly Agreed” with the … [Read more...] about Preaching in Bakersfield, CA on With One Voice

The Lolita Effect: The Media Sexualization of Young Girls and What We Can Do About It

September 24, 2008 by Alex Chediak

Writing for Christianity Today Magazine, Todd C. Ream and Sara C. Ream offer a brief preview of The Lolita Effect: The Media Sexualization of Young Girls and What We Can Do About It by M. Gigi Durham, a University of Iowa journalism professor. It sounds quite interesting. … [Read more...] about The Lolita Effect: The Media Sexualization of Young Girls and What We Can Do About It

Praise for With One Voice

This relatively short book packs a powerful bang for the buck, providing much biblical and practical advice for young men and women seeking to glorify God in relationships.

Alex and Brett Harris
Best-selling authors of Do Hard Things

Alex and Marni Chediak offer sound biblical advice and a clear Christian framework for working through the maze of confusions surrounding modern marriage.

R. Albert Mohler, Jr., President
The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary

Publishers have been cranking out books with all sorts of directions to help Christians navigate the treacherous waters between the buoys of singleness and marriage, and I know of none that is more clear, concise and helpful than With One Voice.

J. Ligon Duncan, III Ph.D.
Senior Minister, First Presbyterian Church

With One Voice is clearly written and God-centered. Our eighteen year-old daughter just read it and restrained herself from underlining nearly the whole thing!

Dr. Bruce A. Ware
Professor of Christian Theology
The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary
